Why do people automatically sort themselves by height in school

I’ve noticed this for long time, it’s probably one of reason some believe average is 5’11 and others think 5’11 is tall

When I was a friend-haver not aware of these sites and around 5’11, half of my friends were taller than me, but most guys my age were way shorter than me

I start a class today and everyone self sorted in tables by height. There was a manlet table manlet-average table and 5’10+ table I went to the tall one while everyone was sitting down, only 2 guys taller than me in class were here.
