As if that would put a significant dent in one's overall suffering
Doesn't work for net suffering relief, even to a moderate degree. Drugs that actually significantly decrease suffering like benzos and opioids, stop working quickly, and then you have to go do a maintenance level of them for the rest of your life (while not having desired effect anymore) or experience brutal withdrawal. Chronic suffering equilibrium is dictated fundamentally by genetics.
