Why do people feel any form of ties to their background

I genuinely don’t get why ppl are patriotic or proud of their race or care about a “replacement”
Alongside that why do people care about their lineage and having children and them having children
By the time that ever comes around I’ll be long since dead, and it will never effect me, and my heirs mean nothing as they can’t convey who I truly am
I only feel negative to what damages me alone and not how it affects anything after me
