Why do people give the wrong answer when asked “Aren't you...”?

For example, “Are you not faggot?” — if you are not faggot, it is better to answer “Yes,” which works with “not,” and if you are faggot, say “No.” But people changed their answers.

Although it's better to ask people why the hell they ask questions with “Don't you” when in fact they are no different from questions without “don't.”:feelswat:

It's the contraction of "Are not you"

That definition is dead in modern english though
