Why do people hate Elliot Rodger so much to claim he “failed.”

Elliot Rodger planned an attack to kill his roommates slaughter a sorority house, and spread his manifesto. He failed on the sorority house part but he succeeded on the other two parts and also did some other damage. And he was able to blow his brains out and completely evade legal consequences.

There are some mass killers who literally get caught beforehand and thrown in jail. Those are true failures.

So why is Elliot called a failure? He succeeded in a way.

Even armed and full of muderous intent, he still couldn't get into a sorority house
