How did workers own the means of production when these belonged to the state? When the means of production are in the hands of the state then we have state capitalism.

Modern China and North Korea are socially conservative. Cuba is progressive/Degenerate because it's economy got liberalized. It's not even socialist anymore. SocDem at best.

China also liberalised its economy after Mao's death. So what, somehow you don't mind it, apparently issues other than economic are more important to you.​

Communism is the end goal of every society. What you should be debating about is how the transitory state should function.

I support capitalism, but only as a transitory system.

Clearly the system you proposed did not work, since it has not survived to this day. When you look at social democratic countries they enjoy the highest standard of living in human history.

The means of production can be owned by workers directly through cooperatives. The absence of the state does not mean the absence of governance - a decentralised federation of communes with direct democracy is far preferable in the 21st century to a state with a sprawling bureaucracy and a cult of the leader. It was the overgrown bureaucracy that later benefited most from privatisation.
