Why do people like to vent?

I hate when people tell me their issues irl. I never tell them my issues. I always just nod and go “yup I can’t believe that. Geez” when they tell me a story about what’s bothering them.

My life is shit so I’m silent. If I spoke about what bothered me I’d be talking until my tongue falls off. So I just go through my shit days feeling numb and hating my pain but I don’t tell people because I know they can’t fix it
