“I cant accept that I might be wrong.”

“I cant accept that someone elses view could change mine.”

Maybe people dont struggle with accepting that others have different opinions. Maybe they struggle with accepting that they themselves could be wrong.

Is it just ego defensiveness or just the discomfort of holding conflicting beliefs?

they get so stuck on their own way of thinking that any opposition towards it feels like a threat to their character. i find it's especially common with older generations.

its ego. people tie their identity to their beliefs so attacking the belief feels like attacking them personally. also cognitive dissonance is uncomfortable so they reject anything that challenges their worldview
