Why do people say damon braces will widen the palate?

they cant widen the upper jaw bone in a skeletal sense without additional procedures. they dont split or expand the midpalatal suture. to widen the palate you need rpe/mse. i thought they widened it at first cause everyone said they did but i did some research and figured they didnt.
