I’m genuinely curious what the point of self harming is and why people cut themselves and shit when it gives scars. if i wanted to harm myself i would just kill myself i dont understand why they do shit like cutting their wrists and stuff. this is a genuine post because i’ve never heard an explanation for it

Because if you feel really depressed then for a moment if you sh you don’t feel anything. Actually even the cutting (or something else, but usually cutting) you don’t really feel, maybe only a tiny bit. And scars, yeah that’s true but you don’t always think so logically and about years into the future and so on. And of course many who do it are just teens who are notorious for not being able to think clearly about long term consequences. And another thing is it’s just very accessible and it works very well (for instantly feeling zoned out). So that’s why people do it usually.

Most people cut when they panic, get overwhelmed with stress. It gives them a sense of control.

Lets say you’re depressed, your dad died, your dog died, you had a shit day at school.

You cant control any of this

Thats why people cut, to focus on the pain and to be in control
