Why do people want to be seen as different

Many people do things that they don't even enjoy or over rate certain things or vice versa they do things to belong in a certain group even tho they don't like the thing

For example, many people really like berserk but i personally dont like it that much ( the anime atleast). But when I first watched it at 12yo i hyped it up as the greatest anime I have ever watched.( At that point in my life I had actually watched quite a lot of anime for a 12yo)

everyone wants to feel and be perceived as cool and interesting even if their actual interests are that of a mindless npc

same reason why we’re here on a looksmax forum, so we won’t just be cucked blending into the background, it sounds corny asf but just to put things into perspective the goal isn’t just be “someone” but “THE ONE”

To get attention I think? When you overexagerate a statement you're more likely to elicit a reaction or to emphasize your point, like clickbaits on youtube for the former or when trump talks about anything for the latter
