Usually it is ego motivated. Sometimes people actually enjoy what they are doing, and that is credible if they have some creative job. Sometimes they want to keep their business running so their son/daughter can take over. But usually it is just ego, they know that once they quit their job as VP of Nose Hair Grooming at North American Accounting Services that they will just be a dumb fat fuck with no authority over anyone, and they will have to talk to t heir wife/husband whom they haven't had sex with in 2 years.
