Personally, the types of arguments that rely on very little objectivity or consistency do not seem the most sensible to bring up, but anyway.
Beyond that, I feel that if we are speaking from an apologetic perspective and not from irrational hatred, then someone who genuinely tries to make an argument and debate it will attack the argument itself, not the person. For example, for Muslims, Muhammad is the ultimate role model, even though from my argumentative point of view I consider him a terrible model to follow because of everything he carried out, and vice versa.
I feel that anyone who wants to criticize any belief system should do so because they genuinely perceive errors and inconsistencies within the ideology itself, not because they hate the person. At least for me, that is how it should be, and that is what I do whenever I have debated anything.
I do not care whether you are black, gay, or if in your free time you play ping pong. The only thing I care about is the search for truth. But I must admit that you are right that, on both sides, there are people who attack the person instead of the argument simply because of what that person is.
I want to emphasize that I am quite conservative and traditional, specifically a Third Positionist, and my views are aligned with those of the Catholic Church. Even so, that will never take away the appreciation I have for you or for anyone else.
