developed upper traps = reduced perceived neck length = higher perceived shoulder height = more dominant frame.

not to mention that traps are one of the most androgenic muscle groups.

jfl at gymcels lifting for 3 years without training their traps (or neck for that matter).

you can have the girthiest arms in the world but if you have a pencil neck with flat womanly traps you look like a bitch.

if your "narrow clavicles" are an illusion caused by low shoulder height, then training traps is the solution. but if you truly have a low biacromial breadth then i would still train them because it at least adds some sexual dimorphism. As long as you train your delts hard your traps shouldn't look out of place

they could only ever look bad if they're developed unproportionally to the rest of the body, this could happen on roids due to the density of androgen receptors in the muscle.
but ultimately i don't understand how anyone could think traps look bad, unless they want to twink-max

I don't train traps because traps are gay

they just dont look that aesthetic and I dont care much for big muscles or the gym anyway. id rather just be lean and train shoulders occasionally

no one said anything about not being lean, and shrugs are probably the lowest effort exercise that i can think off. Also caging at only training shoulders and nothing else

Traps kill the shoulder width perception and shoulder to waist ratio is the #1 most dimorphic trait not your fucking traps you look like a gymcel with trained traps look at any aesthetic physique david laid , zyzz , jeff seid they all dont have huge traps which makes the shoulder look even more wider

^ Big myth that has circulated gym culture over the past decades. you will never look worse with well developed traps, all examples shown of traps killing a physique is when they're noticeably developed compared to rest of physique OR they show a picture of a framecel with big traps and claim its the traps doing the damage when its really the 14 inch biacromial breadth.

Of course if you constantly have people telling you online that big traps are bad then you will start to believe it yourself and not like the look of them but this should never have been a problem.

Its not a myth bro its science square shoulders will always look more aesthetic than sloped mountains , traps make you look more muscular sure but not more aesthetic its a common gym knowledge and its right.

Just have a 99.9 percentile frame theory

And my point wasn’t that traps were necessary to train for everyone, just that they won’t harm your frame

Well I specifically described how traps can be used to improve your shoulder aesthetics (in a lot of cases) not just overall musculature, but sure not everyone will benefit from developed traps but to say traps are an unaesthetic muscle full-stop is far from true.

Developed traps on someone with small clavicles are not pleasing to the eye. Shoulders are everything.

The micro penises were to symbolize self-control, and intellect. That was not the ideal you fucking moron. Go actually look into something before saying some stupid shit like that again. And if you don't think this "thousand-year sculpture" is not a good base for physique you should kill yourself.

So they clearly did think they were ideal. They thought small penises were ideal for the reasons you listed and others. Dumbass.

“The small penis as an ideal of beauty was initially a Greek affair”

Anyway I don’t want to argue about penises.

also one google search shows a nigga with developed traps

overdeveloped traps are a looksmin. but i agree, i neglected traps for most of my lifting career, i just recently realized my shoulders just didn't match my traps especially when i took selfies or looked at myself front an upper body standpoint (shoulders, neck, traps, chest). it depends on the frame, just has to match the size tbh. neck is also a big one, but if ur frame is already mediocre, it won't help much.

You are a fucking incompetent moron, and you're trying to switch up what I said so you don't look like a fucking retard. They represent self-control, a small penis is not ideal for self-control; fucking idiot. Also, I was talking about a majority of sculptures do not have developed traps; not all dummy. You genuinely need to get smarter.

Wtf are you actually talking about you schizo retard you already proved my point in telling me exactly why they were considered ideal in Greek culture, and regardless it’s already a well known fact that small penises were the ideal aesthetic for male Greek sculptures, why are you trying to deny it.

This is why i made the original point: why try and use Ancient Greek sculptures as your basis to proving why developed traps are bad when you wouldn’t go and get penis shrinking surgery just Because Greek sculptures have small dicks.

Also, I was talking about a majority of sculptures do not have developed traps; not all dummy.
You did not say “majority” you said look at any I looked at “any” and found some with small traps and some with developed traps so there’s clearly not much correlation.

My first post was people with narrow clavicles should not train traps. Lets just agree to disagree bhai

Yeah the goal is of course to keep the trap growth proportional with the rest of your muscle growth, my point was that most gym goers have underdeveloped traps.

There’s no agreeing or disagreeing going on here only facts.

Fact: Ancient Greeks loved small dicks
Fact: they didn’t give a shit about trap size

Also no mention of the words “narrow clavicles” in any of your replies, unless you literally mean your first post on your account was a thread about that, I don’t see how that would be relevant though

Someone with small clavicles is
Already not pleasing to the eye.
They can either cope by trying to make their shoulders look “squared-off” (will never happen) by neglecting traps like their favourite fitness influencer told them to.
Or they can stop neglecting traps and build a normal masculine physique, their shoulders will never look good either way but that’s due to the bone not the fucking muscle.

Yes it's already a downside, I agree. However, I have great shoulders and delts which really make up for my short clavicles. I lucked out and maybe that's why I don't feel like training traps is a priority for me. You do raise some good points though.

If you think you have “great shoulders” then chances are your biacromial breadth is not as narrow as you think it is. I always used to flip flop between thinking I have decent clavicles and thinking I have narrow clavicles. mirrors, angles, lighting, clothes, everything fucks with trying to perceive your frame size, unless you measure it *accurately* (every mm counts for finding your percentile) then you will never truly know.

I used to think I was a complete and utter framecel but I measured my biacromial breadth and it was almost dead average for my height.
Now technically I am a framecel but i realized it’s because of other things like my tall skull and long neck fucking up the proportions, not the clavicles.

Interesting, never thought of that. But I will add that I unfortunately have the dreaded blocky waist and combined with my clavicles.. let's say that they are short. I train my shoulders and lats hard and it's a good thing I've got a decent muscle development otherwise I would like a tree trunk. I don't have a very tall neck nor a long head so there's nothing to say here.

Your wide waist could be making you believe your clavicles are narrow when they might just be average, similarly someone with a narrow waist would think the opposite.

Blocky waists aren’t good but narrow waists look like shit imo as well, another stupid gym ideal that makes no sense. Just look fragile theory. Best is probably somewhere in the middle, although the wider your frame the more you can get away with possessing a wider waist and having it still put you within a good SWR.

And of course waist size is somewhat controllable by growing obliques, narrow feminine waist could be turned into more masculine balanced ones if needed, although gains in width will of course be modest.
In your case maybe you could try atrophying your obliques? (probably not much size to be lost in that area though unless you’ve been actively training them in the past).

@5.5psl what do you think of the narrow waist is ideal thing, do you also believe it’s “common gym knowledge” like having small traps? I saw earlier you said SWR is the number 1 dimorphic trait but would you not agree that absolute waist size is highly dimorphic as well? High SWR should come solely from shoulder width not low waist size ideally imo.

David laid was of course haloed by his narrow waist but only really in photos by himself, when stood next to others with a normal masculine waist he looked noticeably worse. Kind of like how skull size is irrelevant until you have to stand near/take a photo with a 4psl 65cm circumference skull and it suddenly doesn’t matter that much if you have better facial ratios.

Overdevelopped traps makes you look narrow LOL, just lookat zyzz, or clav with a shirt on.

Yep neck size is giga important especially if you don’t have a very wide jaw, neck can make up for it somewhat

They give the illusion of down tilted clavicles and just make you look like a toad, just train your neck, delts and chest for a dominant frame without looking to compact
