Genuinely interested in this… it is very obvious there is a significant genetic factor in the rate each individual gains muscle such that 2 people on the same diet and workout plan could look completely different muscle wise. My first thought was the androgen receptor count and sensitivity but it looks like everyone has the same number of androgen receptors in their muscles and the sensitivity is too easily changed buy selective androgen receptor modulators (aka sarms) which don’t make a significant difference in muscle growth to explain such a disparity between people.

If anyone here is very educated on this or knows someone who is lmk im curious what the main biological cause is and if there is anything I can do to change it

prob because of ancestors, if u have a lot of ancestors who lived on steep mountains then u prolly have good leg genetics, just stuff like that

I’m thinking about like a specific genome or chemical imbalance not just “bc of genes”

Too many factors including CAG repeats on the AR receptor, rate of protein translation for the muscle, IGF-1 response, Test response, fibre type and count ect wct

So no self medicated fix to make me build muscle like the people that think anyone will look good with a little hard work

Myostatin too. Have you heard about the new myostatin inhibitors being researched that Derek talked about ? That might be a game changer

I saw Mike isreal make a video on them but are they significantly different than currently mysoatin inhibitors that seriously fuck your organs

Yes they will be targeted for muscle I think. I’m not sure what your issue could be.

Only thing you can do is maybe a deep DNA test and muscle biopsy but it will be costly.

Some people are type one fiber dominant; others are type two. Type one is better for endurance; these muscles are smaller than type two, but type two fibers are more explosive and bigger compared to type two. Also, there are differences in the capability to train, like one person being able to recruit 40 percent of their fibers and the other 60. Even if they have the same fiber dominance, the one who can recruit more fibers will hypertrophy more. I already saw this mentioned, but myostatin too. The capability to recruit muscle is why things like newbie gains and muscle memory exist (by muscle memory I mean like when a lifter loses extreme amounts of muscle then gains it back faster than they got it). Newbie gains happen because your body has a huge influx of muscles being recruited compared to being sedentary. And muscle memory happens because if you're already a trained lifter, your body can already recruit a higher percentage of fibers. (Also, the amount of fibers you can recruit is not just genetic; it comes with training if you didn't already assume this from the muscle memory statement.)

So 2 things, can I find out what muscle fiber type I have? And if I have never experienced newbie gains can I assume my natural fiber recruitment is very very low

Type 1 vs type 2 muscle fibres
