Why do some people say hi to me on the street?

I walked past this one Russian girl on the street and she said hi to me. Wtf. I'm not mad, just confused. Why do some random strangers say hi to me when i walk past them? I usually only say hi to anyone i know or interract with(friends, acquaintances, relatives, colleagues etc).
