Why do the decedents of history's biggest losers brag about being a warrior race?

I've noticed that the people who shout the loudest about how their ancestry is of a warrior type people tend not to have been all that successful in war...

It's pretty stupid to brag about what your ancestors got up to, but if anyone should be doing this Europeans would make the most sense tbh.
