It's quite ridiculous to prepare all your life for it, but there's a slim possibility a disease like that could show up. Shit like rabies could be one mutation away from becoming zombie virus. Even the U.S government has a plan in case of zombie apocalypse.

Japanese eat raw meat, and we all act like it's some type of a delicacy. And lake water is drinkable as itself, sea water is salty.
Probably the closest thing a virus could come to being a 'zombie' virus is one that makes people become uncontrollably enraged as well as extreme paranoia, fear and distrust in people around them. So they attack viciously out of self defense.
Well not exactly, but rabies does cause such symptoms as aggressive behaviour, anxiety, confusion, insomnia, agitation, paranoia and terror. Patients often forget who they are, who their loved ones are and what they mean to them. However it has rather long incubation period in humans meaning that it doesn't spread very efficiently from a human to human. A mutation could change that. We wouldn't likely see zombies craving brains, but ''zombies'' who would be violent and try to spread the virus to other humans like wild animals.
The likelihood of that happening is probably about equally slim though. The world is just so organized, that some major event like nuclear winter would have to happen for societies all across the globe to just collapse.
