Why do ugly people fish for compliments about their looks ?

Why do some ugly people post videos with text like 'Im ugly I feel I shouldn't exist " just to fish compliments from strangers? Who mostly just gaslight them ? Like the girl who commented something like "you're beautiful but I wouldn't date you " to a ugly dude ( can't find the screenshot)

Or even people fishing compliments on r/amiugly like geniunely how do you feel good after a random dude told you that you were alright ?
It feels like when you gaslight a kid into thinking he's very good fotball player by letting him score.

A compliment is valued when it's geniunely given not forced.

I think just that won't make you get better treated irl and instead will just delay the problem resolution (doing something to improve looks)
