The reason you want to be better is the reason why you aren't, we aren't better because we want to be

Like the monkey who puts the fish in the tree, on the basis of "kindly let me help you or you'll drown"

Doing good for others and doing good for one's self is amazingly destructive, because it's full of conceit

How do you know what's good for yourself, how do you know what's good for other people?

So that I can get away with every time I grape someone or even something

If you say you want to improve then you ought to know what's good for you

But clearly you don't, because if you did you would be improved

If that's what you wanna take away from this

I want to be better because whenever I improve and get good feedback I want more

Would you still want to improve if no one noticed?

This is why we aren't better, because we want to be, because the wanting is about the getting and not the being. It's our ego searching for reward

At lower stages of moral development on Kohlberg model people are driven by the external happenings like reward and punishment
You saying this suggests you have lower morality

No if nobody noticed I’d never bother doing anything tbh

Almost everything I do is performative I’m constantly thinking about how I look
