Its an american thing, because everyone wants to be like america it has spread. In Europe it didn't use to the be the standard for everyone to act fake nice and cordial but its becoming more common now because its the standard in america. I have lots of experience here in america where people will say someone is mean or rude when they are just speaking plainly with a flat tone or just not speaking.

I didn't know they were. I had an Irish friend who worked for a while catering to elderly English tourists. He said they're the grumpiest people in the world.

Canadians really try to be nice. My mother's from Canada. All my Canuk relatives seem to go out of their way to let everybody know that they're the type of people who would always take the moral high ground in any situation. They sure love virtue signaling.
