Why does it feel like that winter amplifies loneliness or melancholy?

It’s currently snowing outside lightly and the weather is darker and grayish.
Always during winter I feel this shitty lonely feeling that will wrap around you and give this "winter melancholy".
I‘m not really depressed or feeling "touch-starved" but during winter small thoughts like this pop up.
How come winter is so shit?
