Why does my chin look short

I measured my philtrum to chin ratio and it was about 1.4:3.5 (philtrum roughly 14-15mm and chin roughly 36mm)

In the mirror my chin looks decent, not super long but definitely not short. But whenever I take photos that aren’t selfies (ie I take pictures from a distance with back camera) my chin looks disproportionately short and lower third in general looks short. Why is that? Because my chin measurements aren’t particularly short.

Will mark solution

Could be bloat and some of your other ratios are off.

That’s me in my pfp, not edited but there is obviously a filter which is ascending me like 0.5 psl. Do any of my ratios look fucked in it? I know the pic is not ideal

Yes small overbite, it has gotten way better since getting braces tho
how much overlap? my guess would be the overbite causes your lower lip to stick out and give it a lower mentolabial angle, so your actual chin height is normal, but due to the overbite and low mentolabial angle, it causes it to look short.

also you're mandible as a whole might be less robust (short ramus).

Hm.. not at all. I am not sure what filter you are using though. I guess you could get a chin filler.

I have a similar problem and my overbite/overjet is 3-4mm

Orthodox said 2mm overbite. I just measure my mentolabial angle and it was roughly 121 degrees, could’ve measured wrong cus I’m retarded but idk if that’s an acceptable value or not?

I have a pretty long ramus compared to other ppl as well as a lower(ish) gonial angle

Some Snapchat filter it mogs so hard.

I was thinking of getting genio, even tho my chin is fine, I just have an overbite, however BSSO is very invasive. My ortho said that he fixed my bite the best he can, and doesn’t want to cause complications by aligning my upper and lower teeth. So I’m stuck with this 2mm overbite unless I get BSSO.

Yeah I am in a similar position.

yeah its probably case of overbite + shorter ramus. If ramus is normal, opt for IMDO.
Yeah cus when I jut my lower jaw forward, my ramus is extremely low. In this case why do u recommend IMDO over BSSO? Cus everyone on this forum always talks about BSSO and not much about the latter

My ramus is extremely long* my bad typo

You used braces?
Yeah and elastics, I used something called carriere motion appliance for about 8 months then normal braces for about a year. I’m getting them off soon, which will mean I can go get a surgery of some sort.

Fuck type 2 elastics?

Yeah, idk if they recessed my maxilla or not, but tbh my maxilla looks fine so idk. Definitely helped my mandible tho
Yeah I have a similar dilemma (also has type 2 elastics). But IDK I still feel like I'd look a lot more striking with a better maxilla. But my maxilla doesn't seem Bimax worthy even though I could use it personally.

I do think my mandible and jaw improved with them though, yes.

bro i went to go see an airway ortho and they recomended me ts right? the ortho assitant lady told me it would move my lower jaw forward but not to be afraid because it wont make my overjet an underbite and i was like ik. and then couple days later i call to ask questions and they tell me the MOTION APPLIANCE will not change my face. i also asked chatgpt which has a higher chance of recessing me if done improperly the motion or the normal elastics with braces and it told me the motion my ortho recommended i hop on elastics same day i get my braces which is a little scary cus wouldnt that be a big change my mouth wouldnt be used to? also he said my face wont change either he told me he doesnt notice much facial assymetry but i do he said i have body dysmorphia. in an interview he said he focuses on the face, the smile , then the teeth.

If it fixes your overbite, it will change your face. Idk why they said it won’t change your face, cus it will. Problem with orthodontics is that it’s a gamble, sometimes ppl ascend from ortho treatment, but some ppl get their face ruined. If I could go back in time I would’ve just got jaw surgery and braces. Would be much better

i just want to fix my bite to fix my chins ratios and i want it to be hardly a gamble i want no negative impacts only positive ones

Yh bro I understand. Make sure u tell ur ortho this stuff ask them specifically if it will change your side profile in any way, and tell them that u value your facial aesthetics over how straight your teeth are.

But if I were u I would just get BSSO
