Why does my gonian outward in xray but not in real life

Because the masseter is 15mm-20mm thick plus there is other soft tissue (other muscles, skin, etc.) so it seems unlikely that like 2mm flare causes what people think of as "flared gonions."

Notice that almost no one with jaw angle implants has flared gonions despite having designs that flare far in excess of anything that occurs naturally. Some appear to flare out from the top of the ramus, not the jaw line, which is what you would expect from flare in that direction.

It probably has more to do with masseter shape and attachment, bodyfat, and total mandible shape than the shape of the actual gonion.

flared gonions is a meme, its just indicates big masseters which does the flaring

I think it's as much to do with body fat, attachments, and muscle shape, like any other muscle issue. Just like there are long and short biceps, there are probably long and short masseters. Someone with the masseter equivalent of a short, peaked biceps and low body fat will probably have "outward gonia" even if their masseter isn't that big.

Like this dude has overgrowth of masseter, but doesn't have that flared look:

Yea true, soft tissue is just as important, and as genetically determined as bones
