It's because White people have the highest SMV. (Not my opinion, every dating app study proves this)

And a white person that has a tan is a cultural indicator that you have the wealth to vacation and go to beaches and places like that.

It use to be that pale white people were more attractive because it was a sign that you were rich and had an indoor desk job rather than a farm job. However, now most jobs are indoors even poor paying jobs so it's reversed.

Being tan is dimorphically connected to hunting animals in the wild and it shows health and vitality, I'm pretty sure even if it was a sign of high class it has always been preferable to being pale

Prior to the 20th century both men and women would cover themselves in lead based products to look pale. In fiction snow white was the "fairest woman in all the land" with "skin as white as snow".

Even now cultures such as Korea consider having a tan to be ugly and lower class (most Koreans). If it was biological we wouldn't see a discrepancy between cultures, or the same cultures from different periods of time.

It also doesn't make sense to be connected to "hunting" even in tribal times. Some one just picking berries or looking for nuts and seeds would have the same level of tan as some one who was out hunting.

On the other hand testosterone increases skin redness (so I've heard), so having a reddish tint to your skin is probably attractive as a sign of testosterone but that's not the same as a Tan. A tan is attractive because of the learned association with status and wealth.
