Why does the human brain cope when looking at the mirror

Sometimes very rarely when I look at the mirror I get the illusion I brutally mog then the phone camera reminds me of my hierarchy in the food chain. Its so strange how the brain makes me look/think I am good looking for a little before reality sets in
