For example, East Asians often have flatter midfaces, yet studies suggest both within and outside the group there's still preference for more developed maxillas. I would disagree, you can't "de-evolve". What may be considered as "de-evolution" is just a mistake because there appears to be no apparent reason when really any sort of adaptation/evolution is done for efficiency in regards to maximising survival.

We're still not certain of what the main cause is, but it's plausible that it was caused by many Eastern Asian Populations living in dry and cold climates so certain facial features evolved to minimize heat loss and protect the respiratory system.

Good point though, traditional East Asian foods did include softer, cooked foods.

I'm certain. But yeah obviously mainstream has no clue. Dry and cold climates wouldn't cause a flat face, even the southeast ones living in warm and moist climates have a flat face.
