If you don’t have any of the qualifications that they look for like a degree in petroleum engineering, welding certification, CDL then you’ll probably start off as a floor hand which seems like brutal work for not even that much money. I’m qualified so I could start off as something “better” and think about it sometimes but “better” still means moving to some oil town like Odessa/Midland in Texas which tend to be absolute shitholes, commuting like an hour to the drilling site, working 14, 16, 18+ shifts, in the summer 110F heat and dust blowing everywhere, I’m no stranger to hard work but it sounds legit unbearable.

Also it’s exaggerated that they’re always hiring, I’ve read about people with qualifications not finding work there.

I read some guy talking about his job at an oil refinery, he said it was physically easy, $100k+, last week of every month off, and no experience required, but I don’t know how easy it would be to get in to something like that.
