Height is basically 80% genetics 20% environment according to everyone here, all here say "20%" like its
nothing, but in fact it really matters

let's say your genes alone say that you are 160cm, that would be your height if you starved since age 0
now if we add environment then (160 x 0.20 = 32 cm) 160 + 32 = 192cm

difference between 170 and 185 is 15 cm,
15 is less then 10% of 170 and 185 and this is the difference between a manlet and a tall person

its the small % that matters the most

this is also why people become taller and talle every year, only less then 100 years ago being 178cm was considered tall
while today its average, its not like everyone just had genetic mutation in the same time the made them drastically taller

Variance from the mean is 80% genetics and 20% environment, not your total height. So if 5'9 is average and you are 6'3 you are 6 inches above the mean. That means that about 80% of those 6 inches came from genetics and 20% from the environment. That works out to 0.8 * 6 =4.8 inches from genetics and 0.2 * 6 = 1.2 inches from environment. So even if you were in the shittiest environment (as long as you had food to survive) you would still grow to 6'1.8.

so why the average height in europe went from 5'6-5'7 to almost 6' in such short period? its clearly more then that

The 80%-20% rule mainly applies to the current 1st world population because they assume even the poorest families have good diets compared to the past, so the difference in height for poor kids vs rich kids is not that much. Now back when poor families had real shitty diets in the 1800s and before the environmental factor was much heavier, maybe closer to 40-50%. As diets became better for poor people height became much more about genetics and now it is 80%-20%. As we get rid of all malnutrition the height variation of our population will become almost 100% about genetics. Also it seems that height increase has capped around the year 2000 for some reason. An interesting fact is that during the early middle ages people had similar height to today's people and that decreased until the late 1700s and then started to climb again, so maybe human traits are cyclical? I think you have a point that environment matters, but it isn't that much, maybe 2-3 cm difference for most people.

no idea how you retards come to this
jfl even being 5'8 isn't natural for us, our frame starts to fuck up, notice how manlets have godlike frame while tall people are always slandermen, we also live drastically shorter (~7 years difference from 172 to 180)
its all chemicals and diets that cause this shit, mutations don't just come on 100% of the population just like that

80% 20% enviroment within a normal distribution range of 5’-6’5. So 20% is actually a difference of 2 inches at most. And actually we aren’t getting any much taller now, we just had a post WW2 nutritional surge.
