Why exactly do women have to put so little effort in everything.

In my understanding women, given make up, have uplifted their standards by a lot. Ugly women can be pretty etc everyone knows that. What i don’t understand is how did hypergamy get so bad. there have always been ugly guys and ugly girls but why do only the ugly guys suffer so much. Back then i don’t think it was that bad , everything was fair right?? So when and why exactly did that shift happen that women could do absolutely NOTHING all day long and would still get approached while someone who trains, eats clean and does everything possible doesnt even get approached normally?
I doesn’t make sense to me even naturally yes chad gets all the women but their still „uglier“ animals who get to mate right? and nowadays it’s just fucked up ur just straight up killed off yk
