When I was a kid, my dad bought a car, which was a pretty huge deal back then in Romania, very few people could afford one, I was like the only kid in my class whose dad had a car, and I was pretty proud of it. Then communism ended, the market was invaded by cheap, second-hand cars brought from the west and many people started to buy them...
However my dad's car had a leak or something, it always smelled like gas inside, and whenever we went somewhere I would get a headache or feel sick inhaling the fumes. I thought all cars are the same, so I had no interest in learning how to drive it, I preferred to use the bus, train or other ways of moving around and I felt a repulsion whenever I had to get inside a car. It took a very long time, until I eventually noticed that other cars actually don't smell inside, but by that time it was too late, I'm 39 now and still don't have a driving license....
