He must have had a deep voice naturally. A deep voice happens when testosterone builds up and causes the vocal cords to thicken and lengthen, which increases the adam's apples size and which causes the voice to deepen, as it vibrates at a lower frequency. Smoking just destroys those cords causing it to be raspier and even more extreme cases of full lose of voice.

It's bit of a scam if you ask me, Boys go through puberty their bodies get blasted with Testosterone yet their voices don't change all that much.

My voice is naturally deeper in my native language, when i speak English it spikes up for whatever reason.
