First let’s start with how iq is calculated:
Iq = mental age / actual age x 100
So let’s say a kid is 10 but meets the standard mental bench mark of what an average 12 year old kid is expected. His iq would be 12/10 x 100, or 120.
Now let’s say that kid gets slightly older and is now 11. His new iq would be 12/11 x 100, or 109.
Now obviously he didn’t get any less intelligent but he went from an iq of 120 which is considered well above average, to an iq of 109 which is in average range.
Iq also varries greatly on age, because the denominator in this equation is your age, the gap at a young age makes such a big difference that having extremely high numbers when young is very easy (even though the person isn’t actually a genius, they will appear to be based on the test)
Finally, iq test can be studied for. This may seem obvious but if a test only tested pure natural intelligence, then no amount of studying or preparing would affect the score. Hence it’s not a true measure of intelligence.
Before I get replies saying I’m coping: I have iq over 130 and am in MENSA so it would be in my favor to support iq being a primary measure of intelligence.
