Why is 40 considered old to a 20 something , but not a child?

I asked my 10 year old nephew if he thought 40 was old (I was 24 at the time). He said "no". Then I asked him what he thought of as old . "70", he replied. This is how children think. But suddenly 40 so old is when when a 28 year old female with eggs drying up quicker than the Mojave dessert is only 12 years younger than you and her biological clock is about to run out. Maybe they are upset because they realize they're not that young either.

Its more that life experiences and irl show us that after your 20s life just goes in a fast decline in general happiness and fullfillment. Even normies know this. But children cannot relate to an adult life at all so they only hear about "old people" in the context of grandpa and grandma etc and how they are potrayed in cartoons.
