People give HTN for two reasons nowadays :
"He is not that ugly, slightly above average, but I feel like MTN isn't enough, so I'll give him HTN"

It's a bias people have when rating others or themselves.
HTN is one of the most common rating because of this weird bias where you use it either for everyone that's even just slightly above average, or everyone that almost approaches or is Chadlite.
It's become that weird middle ground because the brain thinks "above average is above MTN, so HTN" or "above average but not quite is HTN". So even people who are just slightly above the average man suddenly get "HTN".

more or less, human preferences are partially biologically ingrained, just because people today are fat and recessed doesn't make us stop craving for features that are less common today.

50% is an understatement, 90% of adult men are too fat and 50% of children, young adults are probably inbetween those at 70%~
