Why is ”Gatekeeping” considered bad, and not wanting things to go mainstream?

People who don’t want their favorite creator or artist to go mainstream usually get bashed for being a scalper and nerd or some shit.

But it’s a logical way of thinking, if you have followed a creator like let’s say, clavicular; androgenic or a upcomer named hexumlite. And then some random artist.

When people go mainstream it’s usually not a steady rise, it’s a series of events on top of eachother, viral clips that initially create a mainstream status.

When 90% do your fanbase now learnt about you from a viral clip, chances are you will stop doing high quality content that you usually did, because as we can see. That never led them anywhere.

Are you not allowed to think that clavicular going mainstream was a bad idea?

I used to watch him w lot from the point of October 2024 until November 2025 because that’s when he stopped uploading the same content, it’s all thirstraps and streamer clips now.

Thoughts? It’s not usually about being edgy, but seeing your favorite creator ditch the good content for mass appealing slop.
