Why is having a job the be-all-end-all of existence for so many people?

Having a job and/or internship is some kind of status symbol for anyone between 16 and 25 as if it isn't just being a tool. The tone of this age group when they talk about their work would make you think they're established proprietors or something like that. "Look at me and how much burden I can handle I'm so indispensable" fuck off.

Coming from a 22 year old who's never had a job because of autism, OCD, executive dysfunction, emotional regulation issues, and maybe some CPTSD.

I’m 16 and need a job however I still want to hold on to my youth. That and being ugly is my only excuse

Don't do anything cashier, server, or front desk I guess. Filling out applications is oddly tiring but that's just me. Being a 5'2.5" Asian mentalcel is another excuse for me because I'll be the workplace punching bag and I think my parents know this on some level so they haven't pressured me to work.
