why is hypergamy a bad thing?

i talked to some females before about hypergamy and explained what the situation looks like and one was like “so what? everyone should have high standards” and i was like “dont you think it is kinda selfish to think that way?” and she said “i dont care, anyone is free to ask for what they want and if she will get a guy with the qualities she wants, she will get it and if not then she wont marry and thats it, its not like everyone has to get married”.

so my question is, why should women think hypergamy is a bad thing when it doesnt even affect them negatively?
