Why is it that people with good hairlines usually grow out their hair?

Whenever I see someone with a good hairline, they've usually been growing their hair out for a couple of years and just recently decided to buzz it down, revealing their precious supreme NW0 hairline.

Has anyone else noticed this? Could it be something more than just coincidence? I have a high set NW1 and Ive been cutting my hair ever since I was very young. Haven't fully grown it out in probably close to a decade.
