Why is London City finance mostly white while Wall Street is so diverse?

I was reading some shit about investment banking and noticed that in London (City of London finance scene), it's like 90% white Brits, some Euros, maybe a few posh Indians here and there from elite schools but mostly just pale af Anglos and such.

But flip in Wall Street NYC banking, hedge funds, whatever it's packed with Jewish people like every big name firm has them at the top Asians. Chinese, Koreans going hard on quant shit and Indians are prominent in Fintech and tech-finance scene. Why the fuck is that? Is it cuz America is all about muh meritocracy meme but really nepotism for certain groups? Or UK has some old boys club that's still gatekept for anglos?

Yeah, it's like Oxbridge + a few private school exclusive party with a few outsiders sprinkled in whereas for the US anyone from across the country has a chance provided their track record is good and they're competent

Seems like that strategy is working since wall street firms far out performed European firms in both Q1 and Q2

@Jason Voorhees as the replies above said, the white elites here have a strong grasp on the banking sector

I know bums with history degrees become managers in the big 4, just because they were rich and white and had connections.

Tbh all the toughest, highest skilled banking jobs are in the US. All the quant jobs are in wall street, which is why you've got Asians/Indians there. Its one of those jobs where the big shots cant hire their sons and nephews out of nepotism. That's another reason

Already been answered - but to work in finance in the Square Mile you have to BE finance. Right university. Private school. Properly dressed etc ethnics still make alot of mistakes like wearing brogues with suits.

It doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. There’s a lot of DEI now in the city. It’s still mainly white concentrated, but if you’re a DEI with a decent education, the road is actually easier.

Only some boutiques, wealth management firms ect have that WASP nepotism still. Big firms are still pushing DEI.

It’s not that hard to break into the big 4 in the UK. Anyone with a decent uni grade can realistically break in. They do the hours and eventually become a manager.

In the UK, you don’t even need to go to uni to join the big 4. You can do a school leavers programme after A-levels (18) and they’ll train you to get the ACA

By big 4 you mean the main 4 professional services firms ( KPMG, Deloitte, PWC, EY) or the 4 biggest investment banks ( J.P Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, BOA ?)

Investment banks.
Yeah then it’s harder but there’s still lots of DEI here for the big firms. Look at the new graduate intake and you’ll see it’s very diverse.

As you climb the ladder it gets less and less diverse though.

Yeah true, but that's the thing they're hyper conservative and pick up on little details. It seems Wall Street is far more meritocratic in comparison where the City of London remained homogeneous.

They clearly need to do something different because wall street is mogging them to the moon every where. London main appeal is Lower capital gains and lower regulations but the prime minister starmer doesn't like it @Saint Casanova

There’s still too much red tape in this country and will get worse under this government. Most UK sectors have stagnated as well impacting markets.

Finance would be great fit for you ironically. Since you hate ethnics and only want to work with whites. This is your golden ticket

London Finance is managing money for rich guys. People trust white men more

I have worked in London finance and there were many Asians and Indians there although it was mostly white (it was around 2000 ppl) and I was like one of 3-4 black ppl

all races are represented amongst the elites in the west except blacks, I'm not blaming racism, I'm just pointing out facts
