Why is McDonald's so popular when they're the shittiest fast food burgers ever?

I haven't had one in decades since McDonald's closed shop in my country many many years ago, but I the last time I had it (while traveling Denmark like 17 something years ago I think) I recall it being nothing special.

I checked out their homepage to see what their offerings looked like, and I literally lol'd at the recipes. 99% of their burgers are just some shitty variation of the basic 'onion+picles+ketchup & mustard'. I think I saw ONE recipe where this wasn't the base and it had like one extra sauce plus chopped lettuce. There is virtually zero variation in ingredients.

I don't fucking get it.

Where is the appeal? People will pay a high price for a super generic burger made from low-quality ingredients? Maybe in the USA it's more affordable but almost literally everywhere else McDonald's is actually pretty expensive (which btw is why they closed shop in my country in the first place. People couldn't afford to eat there.)

In countries that have McDonald's it's just convenient and it's a familiar place to eat if you're in a place you're in a place you don't know and need a bite. Of course, such a mindset will depend from person to person. Personally, I haven't had McDonald's since 4 years.

What gets me is that McDonald's has literally NOTHING going for it besides the marketing. Typically when you go eat at a restaurant (even if it's a fast food restaurant) you're getting some fancier you can't make at home. Things that are hard to prepaire, or special ingridents, etc just anything that can't be made that easily at home.

But McDonald's has NONE of this. Just literally NONE of it.

It's a generic burger patty made from low-quality meat served in a low-quality bun with chopped onions and pickles plus ketchup and mustard. And that's literally 90% of their burgers. All their other ones are just the same recipe from above except they'll throw in an extra patty or some cheese.

You can literally make your own McDonald's at home with minimal effort using store-bought ingredients and it will be 5x better. AND it's cheaper.

A child knows mcdonalds. When parents have kids the kids want to go to McDonalds. McDonalds is popular and known. People recognize and are familiar with the taste and even smell of mcdonalds. They can sell crabby patties and people wouldnt care.

Same reason trash and harlot musicians win Grammys instead of their writers, same reason weird old people become presidents and leaders of countries. Same reason people buy mid shoes and plain luxury brands for thousands of dollars.

The secret is sugar and fat. Americans are so used to eating sugar and fat that if they taste it they like the taste and get addicted. Therefore they love McDonalds.
