just natural change, old norse had 4 cases like german while modern scandi languages don't have them except for personal pronouns (just like in english I/me etc), but also german influence from the hansa so a lot of old norse words got replaced by low german

iirc 1/3 or 1/4 of the vocabulary or smth like that in modern scandinavian is low german

Icelandic didn't have that and is still very close to old norse tho
