Why is TV just a massive dick measuring contest for oldcels

Why does every TV show or debate turn into some epic dick measuring contest for these oldcels? Like, you got these 50+ year old dudes on CNN or whatever, flexing their wisdom and accomplishments like it's a pissing match to see who has the biggest ego or the most irrelevant stories from the 80s. It's all posturing, no substance, just endless one upmanship about who survived the "real" world better. Are they compensating for balding and ED or what?
