Cameras, but especially shitty phone cameras, distort your features, especially if you take them up close.
This can be manipulated to appear better looking (ever noticed that guy who only takes pictures of himself from a certain angle?) but it can also make you look deformed.

Why do you think women take 50 photos and then choose the best one out of 50 to put on IG?
