Users are complaining that high effort posts such as looksmaxing guides are getting much less attention (reply and reputation wise) than offtopic posts.
But that simply isn't something you should complain about.
The huge majority of the active userbase doesn't care for guides. This is pretty water but people who come on the site repeatedly throughout weeks or months are looking for entertainment first and knowledge second or even third.
Guides are read by people who are inactive and are looking for knowledge. This includes users who aren't aware of forum etiquette - like repping - therefore giving you an illusion of a thread 'flopping' despite it still being extremely useful for people who actually need the information provided in it.
Post in looksmax:
Gets searched up > user gets information he needed > he leaves untill he needs information again > "thread flopped"
Post in offtopic:
User sees it on homepage and clicks on it (instantly shows intrest) > user likes it > reputation and replies flood in > "thread didn't flop"
The first user won't bother to reply or rep your post, because they don't understand that it's a show of appreciation. MOST of these users don't even have an account, and they obviously won't go ahead and make an account just to rep your guide.
BUT the user still got plenty of information from you. He read and appreciated something you wrote as a passion project and you SHOULD be happy. A true indicator of whether a thread flopped is the view count and not the rep count.
Those who make guides don't understand those points. Guides (nowadays) are made for reps and views, aswell as user exposure - like in case of grinding for a contributor badge. No one cares about actually providing information and helping others - except a select few users. Hell i'd argue that 99% of guide makers have no idea or passion about what they're talking about, and simply asked chatgpt what they should make a 'viral' thread on (ahem. @shedontluv-U)
This is exactly why the forums quality AS A LOOKSMAXING forum is going down. It's majorly an entertainment platform. Making guides is like posting informative videos on tiktok - sure they might find their audience, but someone posting a funny skit will get 100x more views and 10x more likes.
