All throughout history in most cultures older people were seen as the wisest greatest minds.
Today is the opposite abd we look to fellow young people.
I actually believe that this is only partially becouse of economic struggles “just work hard and buy a house at 21 like me” and more becouse of actual cognitive decline
Most people in the old world, like a Native American elder, would eat the best food, have perfect circadian rhythm, stay physically active, get enough sun, etc…
These people probably had zero cognitive decline and I venture to guess would even continue to learn and hone their craft into their 60s
Additionally if they did have medical problems they wouldn’t be kept alive with modern medicine and would die naturally before they could fall apart mentally.
Today is the opposite and 1/3 of people above 85 have dementia. We know dementia takes a while to develop and smarter people are more resistant which makes me think most old people have significant cognitive decline and we only notice in those who are particularly severe.
All the modern food, pharma drugs, sedentary life, etc… causes almost all old people to have significant cognitive decline, we are just so used to it we don’t really take notice.
TLDR:
Ancient old people = full cognitive ability, brain still learning at 60+ years old
Modern old people = brain begins to decline with age due to alcohol, pharma drugs, bad diet, inactive, etc…
Therefore nobody takes old people seriously and begin to despise them for bieng close minded, never being able to understand new problems, dogmatic, stubborn, etc… Its also why they are allways falling for scams. And why there is a such thing as the OK boomer meme.
Also why old ppl are so easily manipulated by political propaganda. The whole point of cnn and Fox News is pretty much to sedate old ppl at the retirement home with emotional slop so they get out of bed and vote every year.
