Why passport matters so much

I saw white beggars/backpackers begging for money when I visited malaysia for the first time. Yes white European blonde haired blue eyed backpackers BEGGING the locals who earned less than the minimum wage of those countries they came from, for money to travel to other countries in south east asia. They carried signs boldly and the locals didn't like seeing them begging like this so the same man who earns less than their minimum wage was feeding them free meals. It's not uncommon either. I saw them across South East Asia and even in Rishikesh, Kasol etc

That was the first time I realised how extremely indiscriminate travel access was on the base of passport and skin color. Europeans don't have to prove months or years of financial security even beyond that one trip to be granted a visa clearly while I have to give half a stack full of papers to get a Visa, go through a dozen checks and even then could be rejected because of my passport being liability.

My cousin has a UK passport and can travel wherever he wants no problem. He never gets asked, never gets questioned, never gets stopped. Everything is frictionless

I was blessed.

My parents are Indian but my dad had a job that let him travel the world when they got married.

After my parents were married my dad was stationed in the USA.

He went there with my mom on a work visa. They had me there, and I lived there for nearly two years until the Visa expired and we came back to India, where I lived until I was 14 before immigrating to Canada.

So now, I have an American passport and citizenship

i mean im canadian and look med but I was walking arnd in downtown in canada and I got stopped by a european guy in his mid 20's that asked me if he could stay at my place for the night or if I knew anywhere where he could get a place to sleep for the night it was so weird.
