religion is pretty vague so ill just classify it as worshipping gods and ill be going over Islam in specific heres why its not real and stupid
around 3500 BCE (about 5500 years ago) humans invented agriculture settled down and built the world's very first cities in sumer (modern day Iraq) and ancient egypt. As soon as human populations grew into the thousands alpha leaders realized they couldn't control everyone through brute force alone they needed an ideology. early Mesopotamian rulers like Enmebaragesi (2600 BCE) and Egyptian pharaohs like narmer (3100 BCE) did not invent the gods from scratch, but they radically reorganized religion into a tool for state control. They tricked people using a "Divine right" These rulers built massive temples and appointed themselves as the "High Priests" or literal "Living Gods" on Earth. The kings ruled people by telling the peasants "If you do not pay your taxes, harvest the wheat or fight in my army the Gods will become angry and destroy our city with a flood" By making the laws of the King look like the laws of God rebelling against the government became a spiritual sin punishable by eternal damnation or cosmic destruction.
This is how religion was made then people like muhammad came along say these rulers from the past and decided to do the same thing, after muhammad fled from mecca and got invited to the city of medina as an impartial judge he quickly consolidated power and became the political and military leader of the city he used religion to do this by using 3 different methods
1. before islam people owed their loyalty to their blood tribe Muhammad introduced the concept of the Ummah (the global community of believers). this taught them their loyalty to god was more important than loyalty to their family/cousins
2. Positioning Himself as the Only Legal and Divine Authority
When Muhammad moved to Medina, he drafted a document called the "Constitution of Medina". meaning if there was a legal dispute the final call to who won would be down to "God" and Muhamad
3. Just like the ancient egyptians muhammad turned warfare into a sacred, Eternal duty
he promised his fighters if they died they would go to a luxurious paradise filled with endless rewards HOWEVER if they refused to fight they would burn in hell
