Why shouldn't I supplement 20.000+ IU vitamin D a day?

In the summer scandinavians can synthesise 20.000 IU vitamin D per day if we spend too much time in the sun. Average human can get ~10.000/day so surely this can not be harmful: https://academic.oup.com/jbmr/article-abstract/22/S2/V64/7597174?redirectedFrom=fulltext&login=false

I eat ungodly amounts of greek yogurt and skyr so calcium isn't a problem.

I'm going to an Eastern European country over new years, considering just megadosing vit-D this winter and getting a blood panel to see my serum levels.

Thanks for reminding me to take my D3 today I almost forgot. And 10k IU per day just seems like a safe bet. It's not too much and it's a good amount of D3 to prevent you from being deficient.

I've heard doctors can give you a shot of like 100k IU at a time though in some cases. I forgot where I've heard this from.

250 micrograms or 10,000 IU.

IU stands for international units and is an internationally accepted measure of the biological activity of certain hormones and enzymes, as well as fat-soluble vitamins, among other drugs. The IU measurement can vary based on the biological activity, or potency, of the substance per unit of mass or volume.

Be aware that it can also cause hypercalcimia and cause kidney stones, headaches and low appetite

I will get a blood test in less than a month, so I would hopefully be able to stop the megadose before any of those symptoms develop... I hope lol

10k IU every day should be sufficient.
I bought D3 supplement the other day and the box says that I should only take 1.5k IU which is equivalent to 760% of what is needed.

I was taking 4 capsules (6k IU) thinking it was a lot. :lul:

But I also don't know if I'm deficient yet.

Yeah, that's based off BS recommendations. Completely ignore the recommended intake for it. A lot of it is 20k IU a day like OP is suggesting. 10k IU is perfect. 6k is fine too. You can find Vitamin D3 that has 10k IU in one pill on Amazon for dirt cheap too.

Make sure to megadose vitamin K2 too then, so that the calcium can go to your bones instead of calcifying your arteries

Thank you. How long would it take to restore normal D3 levels? (assuming an intake of 10k IU daily

I did 50 000 iu daily for 3 months and nothing happened.
That was extremely early on in my looksmax journey about 12 years ago

Honestly? I can't give you an answer to that because I don't know how deficient in it you are. I also don't really know what counts as "normal" D3 levels because we all come from different places with different levels of exposure to the sun.

I do know that taking 10k IU will make you good to go in terms of taking care of your levels of D3 over some amount of time. If you were to take like 500IU or something like the supplement labels say to do it won't be enough.

I will get a blood panel later.
