The quarantine in the US will allegedly save 50,000 lives. But the thing is, despite what the media says, the vast majority of these people are very old and have various health challenges. I estimate the average life expectancy of those that are dying from the virus at 15 years. Multiply 50,000 by 15 years and you get 750,000 person years saved by the quarantine.
But the quarantine has a cost of life as well, it is just so broadly distributed that most people do not recognize it. Of the 340,000,000 people in the US I estimate that 200,000,000 are significantly impacted by the quarantine.. I think it fair to say that a quarantine is equivalent to a 50% reduction in life during the quarantine period for the 200,000,000 that are significantly impacted. Multiplying 6/52 (6 weeks out of 52 week year)x 200,000,000 people x 50%= 11,500,000 person years= the cost of quarantine. That is 15 times as many person years as saved by the quarantine.
